The pots for "Horse Hair Raku' were burnished before the bisque firing then some were glazed on the inside with a raku glaze. Some pots were not burnished these were for "Classic" Raku. The Kiln is fired on wood and the temp was taken up to 1000 deg C. to melt the raku glaze. At this point the "Classic" raku pots were removed and put in reduction bins with sawdust. The kiln was then allowed to cool to approx. 500 deg C. and the remaining pots removed and treated with feathers or horse, cow and even dog hair with varied results. A great day was had and some fine pots went home with the students. |
